WEBINAR – Lending the Credit Union Difference Way
May 21, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This is a the third webinar in this series.
In the early years of credit unions, lending was very personal and very labor intensive. Credit unions were predominantly single SEGs and there was high degree of familiarity. Credit unions were also like family and members looked out for each other and looked out for their credit union. As many credit unions moved to community charter, familiarity with their members became even less. With the advent of credit scoring, more emphasis was placed on credit score and less on the traditional decision-making techniques. Then, credit unions digitized their lending which led to even less personal touch. As a consequence, credit unions are missing opportunities to assist members who are facing challenges.
In this webinar, Mark will
- Discuss the challenges that members are facing.
- Talk about the reasons 56% of Americans have a credit score under 640.
- Outline the power of using “storybook lending” and how to introduce this technique.
- Show how “not yet” lending can help members avoid getting themselves into further financial trouble.
- Demonstrate how impactful the “credit union close” can be for the member and the credit union.
- Showcase credit unions that are successfully using these techniques to lend to member with low credit scores in a way that does not place the credit union at risk.
